Tim finish one game and prepares to start another.

Wonderland has been restored.

After not too much time and difficulty I finished off American McGee’s Alice last night, though I will admit to cheating a bit on the last few levels. I simply didn’t have the patience to retry some of the sections over and over. So, I turned on “notarget” and ran through a couple of the tougher sections.

Near the end of the game there is a level with endless card cards pounding down while you try to run across a narrow walkway. I attempted it a couple of times with vary degrees of success before I opted to just have the guards ignore me.

Surprisingly the Queen of Hearts (the final boss) wasn’t that difficult to beat. It took a few tries, but I made it through without much fuss. I must say though, for all the twisted Wonderland imagery I didn’t get the Queen. She really didn’t look anything like a Queen of Hearts – not even in a super twisted sort of way. I was a bit disappointed with that.

And now that I am out of Wonderland, Xmas brought me Myst IV: Revelation. I really enjoy the casual exploration of the Myst games and am looking forward to this newest chapter. I’ve played all of the games except Uru, which I heard isn’t that good (though it’s got to be better than Riven).

By the way, Myst IV came with Exile, which I already have. Any of my local friends interest in Myst III: Exile, or Alice?

On being nearly done with American McGee's Alice

Since I am done working for the year, I whole heartedly plan on finishing American McGee’s Alice.

I’ve been playing on and off for a while (I’m slow when it comes to finishing games) and am nearing the end. There’s only two sections left (11 levels) and I can devote hours at a time to it.

So, off I go to Wonderland.

I love having the holidays off. I haven’t actually left the house since Sunday. Yesterday (and today) have been dedicated to Icewind Dale. I might actually make some good progress.

Saturday Sarah and I met Kristen and Patrick for a matinée of Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King. That is a fabulous movie. For me it was certainly the most emotionally invested movie and I needed all of the endings. I needed to see the hobbits return to the Shire; I needed to see Aragorn crowned; I needed to see the elves, Gandalf and Frodo set off into the sunset. It completed everything for me in a way that Hollywood just doesn’t do. (Nowadays, they always leave movies somehow incomplete, just in case they decide to make a sequel.)

I’m actually looking forward to when the full, complete, uber-box edition with all three movies with extras and more extras and etc. is released so we can have a complete movie marathon. It won’t be as good as the marathons some theatres showed, but it’ll have to do.

My only complaint isn’t with the movie, but the industry. We had 10 full minutes of commercials before 20 minutes of previews. Movies, the last commercial free place, are gone. It is a sad day.
